A winter storm system has descended on Southwestern Ontario. The shores of Lake Huron are getting battered with off-shore winds and lots of snow. I know the lake view doesn't look like this now. The beautiful variegated blues of the water will be replaced by frozen ice and an endless vista of white. I think about the cottage buried under an untouched layer of snow and hope that it doesn't feel too lonely or abandoned at this time of year. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were there for Thanksgiving with friends, soaking up the sunshine and warmth on one of the last beautiful weekends of the fall season.

During our walks, I noticed the beautiful rocks slate along the shoreline as well as the many layers of colour and cloud in the sky. When it was time to create some new "Lake Huron" series jewelry, I decided to add to my original design and include a rock layer texture as well as texture layers in the sky.

I also decided to do a few component necklaces. In this one, I used my original "Lake Huron" series texture.

Cottage and beach memories warm up these wintry days. Before we know it, it will be cottage season again, but in the meantime, it will be fun to warm up by the fire in the studio, look out on the sunlit layer of sparkly white on the trees, and be grateful for creative retreat time.
